One of the many problems with both drugs and alcohol is it’s effects on our judgment and impulse control. While the focus of most discussions is on how drugs or alcohol effect the mind and body, one of the big issues, is the problem of loosing our ability for good reason and making decisions while under the influence.
As a licensed therapist, I have seen many clients. Most describe there worst behavior or problems with the law as a result of either being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They continue to explain that if they hadn’t been drinking or using drugs they wouldn’t have made the impulsive or nonsensical decisions they came to the day they were using.
I have counseled teen girls that have gotten pregnant as a result of drinking and poor decision making. I have also seen countless domestic violence cases as a result of either alcohol abuse or drug abuse. There is no question in my mind that alcohol and drugs create problems in our society.
